CCofSE SPEECH SUBSTITUTIONS

Several CCofSE speeches would work in similar Stoa speech categories.

Also, a reminder : Twelve-year-olds (as of October 1, 2019) can compete in Stoa speech and debate.

Examples of CCosSE Speeches and their Stoa counterparts:

  • JV Apologetics would work for an Original Oratory except in Stoa a maximum of 30% of the speech may consist of directly quoted materials.

  • JV Biographical Informative would work for an Expository. An empty easel will be provided but it will be at the back of the room and marked with blue masking tape. The student should move the easel to the front of the room for his/her presentation and then to the back again when completed. Also in Stoa a maximum of 30% of the speech may consist of directly quoted materials.
  • JV Prose would work for Open Interpretation except that Open Interpretation is a maximum of 6 minutes and no forensic notebook is used.
  • Expository appears to be the same. An empty easel will be provided in the competition room and will be marked with blue masking tape. The student should return the easel to the back of the presentation room at the conclusion of the presentation.
  • Motivational would work for either Persuasive or Original Oratory.
  • Open Interpretation may be the same as the Stoa counterpart.
  • Mars Hill may be the same as Stoa although the list of topics may be different. The Stoa list of topics is given here.
  • Apologetics is very similar to CCofSE except that you know all possible questions ahead of time and you can use as many cards (even pre-prepared) as you want when you speak. The cards can be 3X5 but most students use 4X6 cards. If you need a jump start in making cards, check out “Apologetics Resources” on our club website for a list of videos that answer many of the apologetics questions. The list of apologetics questions is found here. This tournament will be using Stoa Categories 1 The Existence and Nature of God, Category 2 Scriptures, and Category 5 The Person of Christ.

For rules and ballots of each of these Stoa speech events, please see the Speech Event Page.

Stoa script submission documents are similar to those of CCofSE with the exceptions of the underlining of all directly quoted material in the platform speeches (has a maximum of 30% of speech contains directly quoted material).

For the Stoa script submission documents, see the Script Submission Page.
